I’m sure this has happened to you many times. You find a page in any search engine and they give you a snippet of information and it looks like exactly what you need….but the site requires registration. Here is the dilemma, you want to view the content but you don’t want your inbox filled with spam.
You can always register for a new free Yahoo, MSN, Hotmail or even a Gmail account but that takes time and you will probably never use it again.
With 10 Minute Mail you will be given and email address that is only valid for 10 minutes. There is no registration required. Its fast, easy and completely free. You can reply to any email you receive but you can’t send email to an address that hasn’t emailed you first. This is to combat spam…ironic huh.
This isn’t the only disposable email address provider new ones are popping up every day.
Here is a list of other providers
Any Search Engine Marketer knows that directory submissions bring lots of spam…..Don’t use your primary email address, use a separate email address and dispose of it after a couple months. Some SEO directories ask you to verify your email address by clicking on a link in the confirmation email. This way they know your email address is a valid and working one and that contributes to more spam sent to you.
The No. 1 search engine reached an all-time high, surpassing the $500 milestone for the first time. Google announced discounts for online shoppers who use its payment service, Google Checkout during the holiday season, and there are continued reports that advertising continues to shift advertising online away from more traditional forms such as print and television.
Yahoo’s stock is also up, just a little, but the public doesn’t seem to have a positive outlook on Yahoo. We have been waiting for the Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN) to launch and I like most, have given up hope. With the runaway success of Adsense, why is taking so long with YPN.
I think by the time they are ready to release it, the only people who are going to use it are the one’s that are kicked from Adsense for various violations. Are those the webmasters you and your advertisers want using your product?
The Zune mp3 player from Microsoft opened with lackluster sales in stores all across the nation yesterday. Is anyone really surprised? Microsoft quickly released a statement saying they are in it for the long haul and one setback is not going to discourage them.
Plus I have heard disturbing news about the DRM (Digital Rights Management) Software used on the Zune. I thought the wireless connection was a nice addition but content you share is only valid for a number of days. Even if you create and upload content you created yourself and you own the rights to that content, when it is shared via the wireless connection on the Zune, copy protection will be apllied to it and there is no way to turn it off. Microsoft said this is because they can’t differentiate between your content and content that was bought.
Good luck.
Split pagerank and inconsistent linking could be hurting your website rankings. You can test to see if you have split pagerank by visiting your site with and without the www. if the pagerank in the google toolbar is different for each, then you just confirmed that you have split pagerank. This is caused when have incoming links to both http://seo-rant.com and http://www.oralseymour.com.
This can be corrected in a couple of ways. In the title tag you can

between the tags of the pages on your site, of course you change seo-rant.com to your domain.
This tells the search engine to follow every link on site beginning with the http://www base. Over time the non www version of pages that are indexed will be replaced with the www version. This can be used on Apache and Windows hosts and works best when you have static htm or html pages. I do not recommend you use it if you are running OSCommerce, Zencart or any other PHP based Content Management System. Use the next option.
The next option is to use the .htacess file which is usually found in the root domain of your website. Add the following code to the .htacess file - of course replace seo-rant with your domain.
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^seo-rant\.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.seo-rant.com/$1 [L,R=301]
This tool redirects users and search engine robots to the www version of your website. This method works on apache servers and it should be used with extreme care. Improper configuration of the .htacess file can make your whole website unreachable.
The final option is to use Google’s Webmaster Sitemaps. There is an option that allows you to choose which version of the website google indexes. Although there is a note there that says Google doesn’t guarantee the URL you prefer will show in the search results.
UPDATE: June 2008
You can now go change your preffered method in Google’s Webmaster Tools. www or the non www version of your site.
Spam by far is the biggest problem we have on the Internet today. I recieve over 1,000 emails daily and two thirds of it is spam. A lot of organizations spend large sums of money and manpower on filters to handle spam. One of my email accounts is on Yahoo and the spammers have figured out how to send email to the future. Today is Monday November 13th 2006 and I already have mail in my inbox for Friday November 17th 2037. This email will stay at the top of my email list until that day comes and passes. See the screenshot below

Does anyone buy the stuff being advertised in these spam emails. Viagra, home refinancing and of course porn. I guess they are because they keep sending more and more everyday. This only makes it harder for legitimate marketers to reach their customers.
Anyone who has a blog or a forum knows about comment spam. Gambling and porn sites and people selling Vicodin and Viagra are notorious for this. In forums they contribute nothing substantial to the community. Some of them don’t even try to hide it, others do a poor job of it.
When I first started to learn about SEO I bought this program that was billed as the “Secret to Search Engine Optimization”. The program was called Blog Blaster. I used to sit and blast comments all day long and thought this SEO thing was easy… needless to say it was a waste of money and I cringe when I thought about all the harm I did to bloggers. I did learn my lesson after a few more black hat techniques and my sites got kicked out of Google and Yahoo - quite a feat. The development of the rel=”nofollow” tag should really go along way to curb this problem when it is implemented properly.
SERPS or Search Engine Results Pages are also littered with spam. I get frustrated every time a do a search and I click through to a Made for Adsense Page. This page has nothing but links to other pages and or adsense and other advertising. These pages can sometimes be found in the coveted top 20 positions for keywords such as birthday gift. Even though the Google and most recently Yahoo have gotten better at fighting this kind of spam, there is still a long way to go. MSN still has a lot of work to do and it seems like every result in ASk.com is spammy.
What was really funny was that one of the largest Spammers, E360 Insight, sued the SPAMHAUS Project because the listed them as one of the internet’s largest spammers. Spamhaus, which is based in the UK, didn’t show for court and E360 Insight won the case by default and were awarded 11.7 million dollars. They can’t collect because the UK doesn’t recognize default judgements. Spamhause didn’t show because if they did, every spammer in the world would be lining up to sue them. E360 insight even went as far as trying to get the court to shut down the Spamhause domain name. Once again they lost because the US Courts have no jurisdiction over ICANN, which oversees domain names.
Wikipedia, a popular online encyclopedia, is having problems with link spam as users try to promote their own sites by posting links in wikipedia articles. Wikipedia has fought this by “locking” certain articles so only administrators can edit them.
I have a tell a friend form on one of my websites and someone was even using that for spamming. Go figure
