This post can become outdated very fast that’s why I will be researching, testing and updating this post numerous times over the next few months.
I think Social Media Marketing should be separated from SEO. In the case of Facebook, it has over 500 million users. It has it’s own ecosystem, rules, language and the way people interact and communicate with each other. The rules of traditional SEO rarely apply. Its a line you have to walk carefully and if you spam in this arena you can get outed very quickly and its all downhill from there.
In the case of people who have a product or service to sell, you might have to bring your visitors to your site for conversions and very soon, this might not even matter. With the launch of the Facebook payments system, users should be able to buy your product right on Facebook. A lot of social media marketing efforts and just posting a link on Facebook or Twitter every time you have a special, blog post or something new to sell.
It also might be hard to track results from your Facebook marketing efforts. The best marketing I’ve seen is when someone offers help to consumers without just pushing their products or services. A great example of this is Wiggly Wigglers. Someone could learn about your product or service and might not purchase for months. Most analytics programs find it difficult to track this.
